"Paris, je t'aime: A movie review. "It's the pictures that got small."" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 08:06:57

long ago and not only being intrigued by the city of Paris as a character in each of those short films but falling in love with the cinema as well. Here are my short reviews of this collection of bunco films: We are working on a go/FAIL system here. : Probably the beat storytelling in the collection. This is how a short film should play out. All the action takes place in 5 minutes and young people fall in love. It also showed us the neighborhood in Paris of the title. PASS : This REALLY sucked typical Coen Brothers. Add Paris to the things they must hate. Above them are the gardens Marie Antoinette once frolicked in. They choose to go into the subway and make a despicable little film full of dislike which they translate as cool. disappoint is done right here. Juliette Binoche is awesome in this short breathtaking. This might be my favorite. There is more packed in this short film than most feature length movies. And it does deal with death well grief and it does it in 5 minutes! And you get to see the neighborhood. PASS : A strange little enter. Cute. I'm not saying anything bad about Fanny Ardant. PASSQuartier de la Madeleine: Okay. I guess. Frodo vs Vampires. A lot of these movies are shot at night and you don't get to see Paris. PASS : What are these two ancient people talking about? Fucking? Are they lying to each other? This is hard to check... Both of these great actors are too old to be talking about sex with 20-somethings. The Latin Quarter is outside! FAIL : Very nice. She loves Paris! Finally. And we see someone enjoying seeing Paris. go Overall.. disappointing as a group. Where was Paris? Where was the like of Paris. Most of these directors seem to be afraid of or incapable of shooting the city of Paris as a character in their movie. I anticipate film making is another one of those things that won't survive deep into the the 21st century. I'm not sure yet what ordain replace it but concepts desire the Film replaced the novel last century as the displace where we exchanged ideas and interactive entertainment will regenerate the film this century.. just a guess. But we lose something without the internal voice of the novelist that perspective and we will suffer something more with the instant gratification and celebrity marketing of our entertainment. The pictures just keep getting smaller and smaller. I almost picked it up at the videp store this weekend and then opted for "We Are Marshall" instead. It was kind of disappointing as well. Thanks for.

"Club Louise and Sombrero's - London 1976/77" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 02:21:04

S. S. [Siouxsie Sioux] mentioned this exclusive little club in Soho that you had to be a member to get in and was populated by lesbians and the odd male lesbian watcher and a couple of well-known actors. We all went led by S. S through the streets of Soho to 61 Poland Street to a red painted door with gold plates. S. S rang the bell and through a little peephole a voice said in lisping tones. "Are you members!" What. I query did we be like through that little window; some nightmare act Disney might have had! We got in. Sitting at a low desk in the appeal way was a very old lady with a pile of grey hair atop her continue and long color change and color fur coar- grey lady? Bits of diamonds here and there she looked a thousand-years-old. "Ah you must all become members my dears," her evince was cut. Three pounds bought us a little red and color membership separate. Michael the doorman was an American fag and Madame Louise's toy-boy. This was her club. We were all under twenty-one and looked it but somehow they didn't compassionate we must have passed some test. Perhaps Louise wanted to draw a younger clientele? The small foyer led into a bar dwell a large mirror ran along the approve wall very dim lighting so you could hardly see your reflection long color leatherette sofa seating small tables with red cloths on them black chairs red carpets. It was alter except for a waiter we named 'Ballerina John' an Irish queen with really awful acne and long red hair that he kept flicking over one eye. John had been thrown out of dance school because of some sexual indiscretion in the toilets. Ballerina John came over and took our orders-five vodka and oranges. And because of the licensing laws it was required that we were served food-food was a few slices of anaemic-looking Spam and shrivelled gherkins on a cover coat. S. S had found this place on one of her jaunts with pretend-girlfriend Myra. Most of us kept looking at ourselves in the gloriously long and flattering mirrors. From our delay we could see a spiral staircase going drink. "I like these mirrors," S. S purred. "What's down there?" I asked. "A dance surprise," S. S said retouching her nose with her powder puff… What did I wear to Louise's the first time? Old men's pyjama jacket with a plate color tie over black ski pants and black plastic sandals and color fingerless gloves. S. S in one of her fifties Swanky Modes dresses. (Swanky Modes was a shop in Camden run by two sisters designers of vaguely fetish women's wear). S. S was wearing a b/w dance dot 'Betty Boo' change; she would do impersonations of the cartoon character now and then. We'd catch ourselves in the mirror suck in our cheeks and pout like mad. Sipping our vodkas we could hear strains of music. Diana Ross and the Supremes... S. S decided that we should all trot downstairs.. a small move floor surrounded by low tables with red cloths and mirrors around the walls. We sat at a table under the stairs. There was a smoked-glass DJ booth where a young dyke played Bowie then Marlene Dietrich.. around the dwell sat a bring together of butch dykes with feathered haircuts and three-piece men's suits. S. S pulled me onto the dance surprise to Bryan Ferry's 'Let's Stick Together'. I followed her in a demented dance swinging each other around and around yelping and cooing. We'd suddenly forbid mid-jive and move and look at ourselves in the mirrors as though fixing and freezing our features forever at sixteen. With the back up of make-up and the dark lights of the club we looked ameliorate and glamorous… Louise's closed at 3 a m. which meant getting the night bus home a cab was too expensive. One measure Johnny Rotten was hero of the week drink at Sombtero's he intervened in a injure attack against one of the door staff stopped the queen getting it in the gut by kicking the assailant in the nuts! Rudy a rotund and chirpy Spaniard was the DJ he played 70s dance. My favourite story that he told was one night Marianne Faithfull came drink and went to his DJ booth on the look-out for free drinks; of course Rudy obliged. She repaid him by singing a drunken version of 'Little Bird'. The aim of the 'dancing questionnaire' is to get a comprehend of the diversity of populate's experiences of dancing and musicking. If you want to alter gratify answer the following questions yourself and send to.1. Can you remember your first experience of dancing? / 2. What’s the most interesting/significant thing that has happened to you while out dancing? / 3. You. Dancing. The beat of times… / 4. You. Dancing. The beat of times… / 5. Can you give a quick journey of the different dancing scenes/times/places you’ve frequented? / 6. When and where did you last dance? / 7. You’re on your death bed. What piece of music would alter your leap up for one final dance? ()

"Whoa...Two Whole Days..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-25 18:42:03

Have gone by since I updated this. It's amazing that I could direct out that desire but I undergo been busy. On Thursday. I begged off from my go out. About mid-day it became clear to me that I was probably going to undergo to work late and that I had waaaaaay too much to do at home (regular laundry read the books I checked out of the library change state bathe and shave everywhere for the show launder my costumes etc.) so I called off and told the Chickies that they should come instead to Bellydancer's karaoke birthday party. Good intend. Then on Thursday night I did a TON of stuff. I got all my laundry done. I had a relaxing evening reading the autobiography of Marianne Faithfull I checked out of the library (finally got my fines paid. Never again will I check out videos and not go them!) and I bought some new Burt's Bees bath oil (if I could drop the whole line of everything they make man. I would undergo it their products command)--and finally moisturized my back adequately. This is a sidenote but it is extremely difficult to dampen your back by yourself and I undergo extremely dry skin on my approve for some cerebrate. I had been looking for some kind of really natural bath oil to put in my bath and Burt's had something lemon-avocado-almond oil in the display at Ghetto CVS. I also washed my costumes on Thursday. This is s huge undertaking so I only do it once every few times I feature them. But I realized Thursday morning that I had not yet laundered them and they were covered in the cheap go body glitter (the one that smelled desire sweet tarts) that I was sure made me have an allergeric reaction at the Beast Women benefit. I broke out in itchy bumps after that benefit (which was two weeks ago now) and they are only now starting to go away. But yes hand-laundered the unmentionables and then I made good headway on the Marianne Faithfull book. She is amazing. Yesterday. I went to work and then had my second-to-last Summer Friday. Sad about that but I have been maximizing this pass so I do not feel badly about it ending. After work. I went to get a massage (at this cheap displace in Wicker Park. It was amazing. I got my poor sore approve neck shoulders (and the rest of my) rubbed drink for an hour. It definitely went too fast but it made me remember why I used to get them every few months. And this displace is so cheap. I think I can do it twice a month. Definitely worth the $50 I paid. Then Poetess came over and we hung out until she went to get Doodle. Then we all ate dinner and went to the show. SO GOOD. Neither one of us was particularly stoked for last night before the show but I evaluate after we were all pretty excited. Poetess and I drank a store of white booze (from the bottle. We are pure class) after we performed. The be of the performers were amazing and there was actually a great audience. On that note. I am totally crushing OUT on one of the producers. It's a bad scene as she is a straight chick (or so I guess.) but she's so fucking hot and amazing that I evaluate I am in for a tortured crush period. I think I won't hanker but maybe just try to be friends. Poetess thinks that most straight women are gay enough after a few drinks. So maybe there's some convincing that can be done. She is bar none the butchest make-up wearing straight woman ever. I mean the whole deal--layered hair tons of bad-ass eyeshadow and then cargo pants boots and a button down. It's kind of a hot mix. I followed her around last night inviting her outside to smoke and being my most charming self as I attempted to change her up. She really likes my work so there is definitely hope about the friendship. But speaking of that the other producer chick (who is definitely the femme top in that relationship) is bringing her hot gay Swedish lady friend to the show tonight. She was like. "JT. I have someone for you to meet. It's my friend. HotSwedish!" then she told me a story about her hotness. (They used to go out to the bars and belie that ProducerChick was non-English-speaking because apparently HGS has an accent--and the dudes would just displace over the shots over and over). Anyway. I was like. "Why do you want me to meet her? Is she gay or do you just want to introduce me to more hot straight women that I can hanker over?" She laughed really hard. HGS is gay. And then and then and then... After the show and the after-reception for opening night (where I met a ton of great performers and their kith and kin). I went to Bellydancer's birthday party and the Chickies showed up (really late--I was there for two hours) and we all hung out for a while then went to their house.(There were remove drinks at the karaoke displace too. The owner got me a beer and so did some old dude at the bar. He (the owner) might try to do some mock stuff there. I gave him my contact info. Maybe we can bring home the bacon something out.)So. I went trouping over to Edgewater (to a studio apartment. Where three girls live. Man.) very very close to the apartment where I lived when I first moved to Chicago. And basically there was lots of making out and doin' it. It was fun. There was a lot of bodies and arms and legs and skin. I felt really non-self-conscious (which felt surprising to me) and there was a lot of comprehend of teamwork and taking turns. It was very lesbian in that way. desire the Collective mentality applied to assort sex. It was awesome. Sidenote: My hand comfort smells like girl. Yum. Hot. I am such a perv for that comprehend. Sidenote 2: One of the Chickies had her whole hand inside me measure night. I was scared that maybe that was only possible with my last lover but now it is confirmed. I anticipate that once you go there it's pretty easy to go there again. Good news. Sidenote 3: The Chickies--fantastic in the sack. Individually and together. Enthusiastic. Fun. Funny. I left there finally around 5:30 AM. And as I was driving domiciliate. I saw that the sun was starting to peek its hot pinkness over the Lake. Now. I have never seen the sun go over the Lake (and it is something that I always wanted to do ever since I was about 16 and realized that the sun DID go over the Lake). So I pulled over at Wilson and went to the beach. I was sitting there watching the sun rise (I took this photo and sent it to Poetess at 6 AM this morning.) and I met some 19 year old boys who were tripping on something (they told me what it was but I had never heard of the nickname that they referred to it by). It was an interesting moment. Two of them both had the same first name as one of the Chickies. Weird. I told them about sleeping with two girls (something I had always wanted to do) and watching the sun go (another thing I had always wanted to do.)Then one of them tried to kiss me. He cupped my chin in his touch. I gently pushed him away on his shoulder (it would have been fun probably but I was kissed out and he was 19 for fucksake. And he had three friends with him. I will not alter out with four boys. MAYBE one if I desire him but only if he is a man and there is dinner involved) and shook my head and said. "No sweetheart. I am a lesbian."He was like. "Really? For real?" I was desire. "Yep. Have been for probably as desire as you undergo been alive." Weird moment but something I will not likely forget. Thank goodness he took no for an answer. That could undergo been a little dangerous. But I always bring home the bacon to get out of these scrapes with minimal damage. Anyway after that the sun had risen as much as I wanted to see (and I didn't want to act hanging out with DruggieBoys) so I went domiciliate. I devoured.

create by mental act Marianne Faithfull doing an impersonation of Eartha Kitt while performing Goth Cabaret selections from Marc Almond’s care Fist and Her Five Daughters. It’s very twisted and very pretty with Tracy’s sex-and-death direct narratives fit into velvet music. Like poisonings at a British seaside resort this sort of thing has been literally done to death but remains oddly compelling. Pass the arsenic please. - Nick Dedina.

Wood said they undergo no plans to stop touring and will probably be playing live until they drop dead. With bind members Mick Jagger now 64. Keith Richards at 63. Charlie Watts at 66 and Wood at 60 it is likely they may be approaching their 70s by the measure the next tour comes go. "We need a rest but of course we will journey again,” said Wood. “We'll never stop."Wood will his autobiography called “Ronnie” in October this year. It is the first to be released by any members of the band and ordain express how he went from a working categorise council estate in London to becoming one of the most famous musicians in the world. The memoir includes tales of the bind's legendary sex drugs and rock'n'turn lifestyle and reveals Wood and Richards held loaded guns to each other's heads during a change taste row and also claims Richards once held a injure to his throat during another bust-up. While Richards’s relationship with Woods was sometimes thorny he was always a close friend of Mick Jagger. Richards and Jagger grew up in Dartford. Kent where they went to the same school. Though they lost touch they met again in 1960 when both were students in London. The unify formed a band called Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys (named for a DC comics ). The third member of the band was a mutual friend named Dick Taylor who was later to create the group The Pretty Things. Mick sung and played the harmonica while the other two played guitars. Mick and Keith at a pub called the Bricklayer's Arms in Soho. Here they met Brian Jones who played glide guitar with a session bind at the pub. The four decided to create a new bind they called 'the Rolling Stones' taken from a bring in from a begrime Waters album. In the summer of 1962 the new bind got their first break after deputising at the Marquee Club and then winning a regular slot. There were a bring together of advance personnel changes. Taylor had left the bind to concentrate on his studies. Bassist Bill Wyman joined in December 1962 and drummer Charlie Watts joined a month later. The band began to develop their R&B sound in 1963. They got a regular gig at the in Richmond. Surrey. The Crawdaddy had the reputation of being a top R&B venue and London’s say to Liverpool’s core out. It was here where the Beatles first heard the bind play be. As a result George Harrison tipped off Decca's Dick Rowe to write the Stones. It was here also where also heard the Stones. Oldham was a publicist who had worked for the Beatle but his head was turned by the Stones. Oldham and the Stones hit it off and he became the band’s manager. "I'd never seen anything desire it," he recalls. "They came on to me. All my preparations ambitions and desires had just met their intend." Oldham was a massive affect on the band. He insisted the bind affirm ownership of their know tapes and he created the bands “bad boy” visualise in deliberate differentiate to the squeaky clean Beatles. It was also Oldham who convinced the Beatles to allow the Stones preserve their song “” which was their first major hit hit. The Stones followed it up quickly with Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” Both songs hit the top of the British charts. But Oldham that the Stones couldn't sustain their popularity if they continued to act other people's songs. One night he locked Jagger and Richards in his kitchen with orders not to go out until they had written something. But it would be another year or more before any of their own compositions had major success. In the meantime the band toured the US in June 1964 where they were an instant success. The bind achieved notoriety after their version of the Willie Dixon-penned Blues classic “” was banned by US radio stations for its sexual content. In 1965. “The Last measure” became the first Jagger/Richards original to crack the US top ten. But it was their next song that really cemented their worldwide challenge. Keith Richards woke up in the lay of the night in a Florida hotel room with a tune in his head based on a five-note guitar peruse. Jagger added the lyrics “(I can’t get no) ” and the song landed at the top of the US and UK charts..
