Pilot Episode Marathon

Posted by ~Ray @ 2007-11-25 18:41:51

I ended up watching the first episode of four different television shows tonight. DexterIt all started with Dexter. Which all started with American Psycho. I was flipping through the channels last night when I open American Psycho on HBO. I'd heard good things and hell it had Christian Bale. (It breaks my heart that 3:10 to Yuma comes out after I leave. Maybe it'll compete in Japan) I couldn't not watch. It was an excellent choice as it was an entertaining hilarious films. Highlights: Jared Leto getting an axe in the approach; Christian Bale running naked down a hall wearing sneakers and covered in daub waving a chainsaw; Christian Bale dropping that chainsaw on a woman several flights below him on a staircase. He threw a chainsaw! Fuck yeah. Anyway in reading about American Psycho on Wikipedia last night. I encountered some references to Dexter which had intrigued me and had earned some good go. So. I decided to check it out. I honestly haven't gotten much into premium bring series. They tend to be serialized which makes it tricky to check them on TV. And in HBO's case the DVDs are insanely expensive. One hundred dollars for a twelve episode series. Fuck you! You have to be Doctor Who for me to even consider those prices. Plus. I was never convinced I'd actually like The Sopranos as I dislike gangster films. Also. I don't get Showtime so that cut out Weeds and Dexter. Luckily. Showtime DVD are not insanely expensive so I'll definitely be picking up Dexter. Dexter is awesome. I don't experience the guy's name but the actor playing Dexter is great. He's the non-Sports Night guy from Six Feet Under the HBO show I'd actually like to check. If you don't know the premise he's a serial killer who only kills criminals who have slipped through the cracks. Because his advance father discovered he was a sociopath and instead of getting him psychological compassionate decided to alter young Dexter channel his murderous impulses toward making the world a better place. Oh and his day job is as a blood splatter expert for the Miami guard. The rest of the cast does an admirable job although there are few stand-outs among the decently sized cast of characters. Julie Benz however is quite good as Dexter's girlfriend. Dexter considers himself a sociopath and unlike Christian Bale's engrave in American Psycho who seems very emotional. I actually believe him; despite this to keep up appearances he's gotten involved with Julie Benz mainly because she having gotten out of an abusive relationship involving being raped repeatedly is uninterested in sex an activity that Dexter considers undignified. Also the hard-nosed detective who actually considers Dexter to be a psycho has the potential to be a delightful foil to our hero. Best of all: arc! Judging from the episode and from what I've construe about the show before. Dexter is arc based although I suspect it will probably be frequently relegated to the B plot of some episodes. Still a juicy mystery and an interesting central character. Sign me up. A+ChuckAfter watching the first episode of Dexter and finding that I did not have find to the back up yet. I decided to finally start watching the leaked pilot episodes I downloaded after watching Bionic Woman. I started with Chuck which probably has the most buzz of any of the new series I've heard about. I'll sum it up: disappointing. It doesn't seem horrible by any means. In fact. I ordain watch throw. But it did not grab me and say this show will be awesome! No it tap me on the bring up and said hey. I could a exceed use of an hour than not doing anything. The biggest problem: rest alone episodes. It definitely looks like will be a show without much arc. It looks desire every episode ordain be Chuck getting some break of information from all the top secret information in his head (which they make absolutely no effort to explain how the fuck that works) and then the Good Cop (a hot blonde who looks vaguely like Christine Taylor) and the Bad Cop (Adam Baldwin playing Adam Baldwin's stock engrave which is by the schedule government agent who cracks wise in threatening ways) ordain argue over how to go about averting disaster. The other problem: uninteresting characters. throw's alright. He seems desire a nice enough guy. But nothing special. And there's Adam Baldwin which is always a plus change surface if he's playing the same damned engrave as always. But everyone else is just meh. throw's geekier friend does have some nice moments but could easily get annoying. The show might develop nicely but if I don't start giving a shit about Chuck. I'm not going to check the show. I remember reading a blurby review of Chuck. I evaluate in Wired. It was the only non-positive thing I'd seen on the show so far. In it they complained that throw was not a real geek. And they're alter. He really isn't. In an opening scene he claims to undergo been playing label of Duty for hours. But I don't buy it. And as this review points out he is in no way excited about the government secrets in his head. maim. What choose of geek learns he has a supercomputer for a brain (and copulate you. Chuck the series for not change surface attempting to explain that stupidness) and his reaction is moping in front of a picturesque land? Yeah maybe if you're a real geek you realize that there are consequences and dangers to having all this info but you still get excited. He's living a geek's conceive of going on crazy spy-fi adventures and he's unhappy. Fuck you. C+ReaperWhat was the best leaked pilot I watched tonight? That'd be Reaper a quite humorous show about a guy who had his soul sold to the devil and now has to work as the displease's bounty hunter returning rogue souls to hell. It's pretty much the exposit of Brimstone a short-lived and apparently brilliant show that Fox cancelled but I've never seen. I suspect however that Brimstone probably went with a different mouth for it's fighting rogue souls series. Reaper is extremely lighthearted in a very good way. Reaper stars the guy from Grounded for Life the dweeby next door neighbor in love with the family's daughter. Did anyone else check Grounded for Life? It was pretty decent. And every episode was told in flashback. Anyway that kid's the main character and does quite come up. The highlight though is probably the main engrave. Sam's beat friend played by a character actor I don't experience the name of. He plays boorish young twentysomething jackasses. Has spikey hair and a rim. You'd recognize him. He joins in on the soul hunting and is very funny. There's a lot of other recognizable character actors. The displease is quite great; I totally recognize the actor but I can't place him. He's got a bit of a mafioso vibe to him though. And one of Sam's friends is a frequently used hispanic character actor. Mustache curly hair young skinny guy. You'd experience him. Sam's like interest is being recast; she did book in the control but she'll be played by the girl who played Candice in Heroes. Which ordain put her insanely out of Sam's unify hotness-wise. The current actress already out of his league but realistically so. Now. Reaper is setting itself up for a stand-alone episode format as well but for whatever reason. I just don't mind as much as I do with Chuck. I think because the exposit more directly states that it'll be monster-of-the-week-y. "Guy becomes the Devil's bounty hunter tracking rogue souls." Yeah you read that you understand it'll be episodic. Nowhere in "Geek gets government secrets downloaded into his object" is there a requirement that he.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
